The first part is easy, the second is not. There's a ton of code in getloadavg.c and it's not easy to tease out just the stuff that is needed. (A lot of that cruft could get removed, I know....) I think we ought to bite the bullet and move AC_FUNC_GETLOADAVG from Autoconf to gnulib, where it belongs. Similarly for AC_FUNC_ALLOCA, AC_FUNC_ERROR_AT_LINE, AC_REPLACE_FNMATCH, AC_FUNC_FNMATCH_GNU, AC_FUNC_MALLOC, AC_FUNC_MEMCMP, etc. This would be a major change, though, and has to wait until after 2.60 comes out. In the meantime I guess we can limp along with Jim's solution.
