On Solaris 8 through 10 (at least), perror says this for ELOOP: Number of symbolic links encountered during path name traversal exceeds MAXSYMLINKS which causes the coreutils tests to fail (at least, this was true as of about 24 hours ago, but I hadn't gotten around to looking into it yet).
