Georg,

This implies to me that the gnulib project may accept a suitable patch
to resolve the problem.  Since you have access to the affected system,
could you provide a minimal patch which resolves the issue?  If it's
trivially short, the gnulib team may be able to accept the patch
without needing a copyright assignment.
