Thanks for the patch to function drop_privs() in locate/locate.c in the findutils-4.3.2 distribution. I've just applied it in a test build, and then ran "locate firefox-2.0.0.2" as an ordinary user, and then as root; both cases succeeded, and without a core dump as root.
