Hi Elliot - you are correct that cfengine 3 will eventually be completely independent of cf2. But for now, in the interests of a rapid interoperabilty, it needs this "leg up" from the libcfengine library. I expect the umbilical will be cut some time next year. Glad this solved your trouble
