            Bug ID: 34974
           Summary: Error: invalid instruction suffix for movzww
                    (%rax),%ax
           Product: binutils
           Version: 2.46.1
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: gas
          Assignee: unassigned at sourceware dot org
          Reporter: romph at gmx dot net
  Target Milestone: ---

Version: binutils 2.46-3ubuntu2 amd64

The asm(...) command in att syntax:
"movzww (%rax),%ax;"
generates the error
Error: invalid instruction suffix for `movzw'
The intel syntax version works without errors.

asm
(
 ".intel_syntax noprefix;"
 "movzx  ax,WORD PTR [rax];"
 "movzx  eax,WORD PTR [rax];"
 "movzx  rax,WORD PTR [rax];"

 ".att_syntax noprefix;"
 // Error: invalid instruction suffix for `movzw'
 //"movzww (%rax),%ax;"
 "movzwl (%rax),%eax;"
 "movzwq (%rax),%rax;"
 );

The disassembler output (objdump -D) is OK:
   0:   66 0f b7 00             movzww (%rax),%ax
   4:   0f b7 00                movzwl (%rax),%eax
   7:   48 0f b7 00             movzwq (%rax),%rax
