I don't think the discussion here is really helpful. We have
--Wl,--no-keep-memory and --Wl,--reduce-memory-overheads that you can try.
H.J.'s mmap patches landed last year too. That improved the situation a lot for
me.
Bugs can be filed with specific testcases that can be analysed, but not with
speculation or vague references to something from initial ld. It's also not
very useful if you can't test the suggestions being made either.
