I also have C++, Pascal, Rust versions of kernel.c, those must be linked with font.o too, so this needs to be a language-agnostic linker-only solution. Setting the byte at offset 48 to 5 solves the problem, and ld works afterwards, so this just a matter of setting a field in the Elf header.
