Works for me on Fedora 29:
$ ./trigger-ar-crash.sh
ar: /export/home/hjl/bugs/binutils/pr23928/ar-bug/libs2/libz.so.1: no version
information available (required by ar)
$ rm libs2/libz*
$ ./trigger-ar-crash.sh
