Doh, I posted the corrected code in comment #1:

        asm(".label     hppa_save_regs");
        asm(".proc");
        asm(".callinfo");

The actual code in gbc.c is:
        asm(".proc");
        asm(".callinfo");
        asm(".label     hppa_save_regs");
