Hi Brian,
I am sorry, but this is another one that I cannot reproduce (using the latest
binutils sources. ie commit d949ff56).
I did recently make some changes to this section of code, to improve handling
of bogus/unrecognised notes, so maybe the version you are testing does not have
these fixed. The commit happened on the 26th of April however (commit
740a4630), so I would have thought that you would have these changes.
What type of host machine are you using when you run these checks ? I have
been using an x86_64 host, so maybe this is part of the discrepancy between
your results and mine.
