gas directly seems to generate the program all right, and in this
particular case I find `dump -t resource.o` to be a good tool to see this
issue with shndx.
As this was being driven by libtool, I can bypass the Makefile and manually
invoke libtool with the initial commands and produce a resource.o correctly
generated with 'free' and with 'shndx' = 0
SO, I believe the issue is somewhere else in the pkgsrc toolchain driving the
builds so let's simply suspend this bugreport for now... at least until I track
down precisely what is going on. sorry
I'll close or reopen when I know more.
