Confirmed. This is where we update the region "current" location, which lacks
any sort of check.
if (output_section_statement == abs_output_section)
{
/* If we don't have an output section, then just adjust
the default memory address. */
lang_memory_region_lookup (DEFAULT_MEMORY_REGION,
FALSE)->current = newdot;
}
The behaviour goes back forever as far as I can tell. This code was introduced
with commit 27f7237e.
