Please could you try out the uploaded patch and let me know what you think.
The error value is set because that is what library functions should do -
return an indication of what went wrong to the caller. There is no bfd_error
value for missing-DSO-on-the-command-line, so invalid_operation seemed to be
the nearest equivalent.
