Bug #: 14662
Summary: strip doesn't remove .gdb_index
Product: binutils
Version: unspecified
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: binutils
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]
Classification: Unclassified
.gdb_index is a section recognized by gdb to speed up start up time (and other
operations). It can be generated either by gdb itself (and then propagated
into the binary with objcopy), or with gold.
Given that it is a "for debugging" section, it should be removed by strip (or
strip -g or whatever).
I think(!) the thing to do is have bfd flag it as SEC_DEBUGGING as it flags
.debug* sections.
