This problem has already been reported as a gcc bug (PR 37216). See: http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=37216 I posted a patch there which does not need any modifications to binutils, but apparently it is causing a bootstrap failure, so I will have to investigate further.
