I assume you are using -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE, or that you have modified your libc so
that it is defined by default. This sort of detail is helpful to mention in the
bug report.
In this case gold is correctly ignoring the result. I added some hacks so that
it appears to use the result although it really doesn't.
