I have a question about the compiling of binutils 2.7 :
Are you really using the 2.7 version of the sources ? They are really old. We are currently on release 2.16 and versions 2.17 will be out very soon now.
I know it means I need a valid compiler, but where can I find this one, and how do I set it ? (and can I even use it on one of these linux versions?)
Most linux versions come with a compiler included. It is possible that you do not have it installed however. I suggest that you check whatever software installation mechanism you use and see if you can get hold of a package called "gcc".
