I'm using gcc version 3.2.2 and I think I also gave a try with 3.4.3 also. I'll verify this and get back to you.
It would also be very good to know if this is a problem with the current GCC sources in the mainline of the FSF repository. ie is this a bug in GCC that has already been fixed ? (Or more likely it is a limitation in GAS which has been fixed in GCC by having it not generate the type of expressions that causes GAS to choke).
