Or maybe there should be a new command [*] (maybe "safemode" or
"paranoidmode") that resets (unsets) any/all of these "dangerous"
variables.  That way, the implementation could keep track of the list,
rather than placing that burden on the programmer.

[*] Or "shopt" option or something like that...
