Maybe I miss your point, but

  <adsf "456 789" "foo bar" "123 456" >

is already implemented behavior of Bash 5.1.  Ilkka just asked for an
explanation of the existing feature (but does not try to reject a
feature suggestion for lack of useful use cases).
