It seems to me that Bash does not require copyright assignment for
contributed patches, unlike GCC and Emacs.  Is that true?

If that is so, how do you manage the copyright issue?  Do you do it by
never accepting a patch as it is but only capturing the idea behind
the patch and re-implementing it in your own way?

I did some search on the bug-bash and help-bash mailing lists for the
keyword "copyright assignment" but found nothing relevant.  I did the
same for the FAQ, codebase, and info page with the same result.  Sorry
if I have missed the obvious.
