it looks like a man page bug, instead of bind [-m keymap] keyseq:function-name bind readline-command "help bind" shows: bind: bind [-lpvsPVS] [-m keymap] [-f filename] [-q name] [-u name] [-r keyseq] [-x keyseq:shell-command] [keyseq:readline-function or readline-command] and it's pretty clear from the description that bind can only bind keys and set readline variables
