It also fails on OpenBSD 5.0 using bash 4.2.10 from ports. Since those are the first two cases I tried, I was quite puzzled. It works on Debian 6.0 in bash 4.2.10 (from source), which I just happened to have lying around. So far everyone has reported success on any Linux system, so that doesn't surprise me.
