So you'd like the shell to act on a signal without `consulting' the foreground job? Take a look at http://www.cons.org/cracauer/sigint.html , keeping in mind that it applies to signals other than those generated from the keyboard, and that it applies whether or not job control is enabled, and see if you feel the same way. I don't think it's a good idea.
