With the background you listed I will guess that you are running gnome-terminal. Obviously this doesn't have anything to do with bash since bash isn't a graphical terminal application but is simply one of the many applications that you might choose to run in the graphical terminal. Several comments that might help you anyway, off-topic though they are. The easiest is to right click on gnome-terminal to bring up the application menu and select Show Menubar again. Another is that F11 is the normal keyboard shortcut to toggle fullscreen mode in GNOME applications and is accessible even when the menubar has been turned off. Also in many window managers ALT-TAB may be used to cycle between applications and will also probably be available.
