The behaviour of bash with this construct has changed between 3.x and 4.x so maybe indicate the version you are using (or just use bug-bash) Also perhaps indicate what you want to achieve (I don't have an hd command, and didn't find a man page after a quick search) and give a more precise description of "breaks the console"
