Or you could investigate the use of terminal escape sequences in your PS1. Remember to use \[ and \] to delimit escape sequences, since they are non-printing. For example, according to http://www.termsys.demon.co.uk/vtansi.htm, PS1='\[\e[20;5H\]> ' will output "> " at row 20 line 5, rather than the current position. - -- Don't work too hard, make some time for fun as well!
