Hi all,
I just want to remind you that PulseData provides an ActiveSync installer
utility which makes it possible to transfer and execute the installer
package on the BrailleNote using ActiveSync. This also has the effect of
cleaning up the installer when finished on the BrailleNote, and is
generally much quicker to pull off on the PC than on the BrailleNote. If
you are using a PC, follow these steps:
1. Go to the BrailleNote downloads page at the PulseData website. The
front page lists downloads for version 4.X users of the BrailleNote.
Among those downloads is an ActiveSync installer program for version 4 and
higher, filename "ActiveSyncInstall_New.exe". Download this and put it
somewhere, in a directory you can reach, or on your desktop.
2. From the same page, press the link that takes you into the SDW site.
Log yourself in, and grab the 5.1 build 22 (xyzzy), where xyzzy is your
serial number (and, by a peculiar coincidence, one of the magic words in
Adventure). Make sure the file goes into the same location as the
ActiveSync installer.
3. On the BrailleNote, hold keys 1, 2 and 3 (or keys S, D and F) down
and, while held, hit the reset button. Wait until the BrailleNote speaks
before releasing the combination. You will hear the version of the
software installed on your user storage - the version that came burned
into your ROM. The speech may or may not sound pleasant, depending on
whether you configured this independent version of KeySoft previously.
4. Exit the browser on the PC and connect your BrailleNote to the PC
using ActiveSync.
5. Find and execute the ActiveSync installer utility.
6. A list box appears, asking you to select the package you would like to
install. Pick KeySoft Version 5.1, Build 22 (xyzzy), and press the
install button.
7. Follow all instructions delivered by whomever should choose to
instruct you. The BrailleNote will take the first opportunity as the
installer runs, but upon completion the PC will advise what you should do.
For a simple version 5.1 build 19 upgrade, this is simply the pressing of
reset. No critical system files have changed and so there is no need to
hard reset your BrailleNote.
And that, basically, is that. Enjoy!
Cheers,
Sabahattin
