The xscreensaver module boincscr will not run on my system.
Looking around, I decided that was for one of three possible reasons:
-I am running the command line version (boinc_client in Linux)
-I use an alternate location for data files
-I have seen references to incompatible libraries in some Linux distros

So I wrote Diet BOINC, an xscreensaver module which avoids the above
limitations:

-Works with the command line version
-Seeks to find (succeeds for me) BOINC data files automatically
-Specifically doesn't need non standard libraries, plugins or modules
-Written in pure Python so it should work out of the box on most Linux
systems
-Because it's made to be widely compatible, it provides no graphics,
only text based data
-Selectable as a normal xscreensaver module
-Since it's written in Python everyone can see the source (or even alter
it if inclined)

I'm running it now in CentOS 6, and it appears to be working fine.

-There is no help file, installer, etc., yet, since I just wrote it. I
dropped it into xscreensaver by hand for testing. Anyone running Linux
(or for the really brave soul, Mac) want to beta test Diet BOINC on a
couple of different distros and see that it works as it should? (you
would have to install by hand like I did at the beta stage, but I'll
tell you how and it takes under a minute.)

-I have not tested Diet BOINC on Mac or other VMs (I can, but that would
require getting workunits, installing xscreensaver on Mac in VM,etc.)

If you want to try it out and provide feedback, I uploaded it to
