I've built Boinc from the client_release/7.4 head, i managed to tag 7.4.38
locally,
and Built Boinc, although it came out named as 7.4.36,
The project and task status now refresh correctly:

stephen@stephen-MM061:~/boinc$ git checkout client_release/7.4/7.4.38; git
status
Note: checking out 'client_release/7.4/7.4.38'.

You are in 'detached HEAD' state. You can look around, make experimental
changes and commit them, and you can discard any commits you make in this
state without impacting any branches by performing another checkout.

If you want to create a new branch to retain commits you create, you may
do so (now or later) by using -b with the checkout command again. Example:

  git checkout -b new_branch_name

HEAD is now at 41b30fa... MGR: To allow WCG and other "branded" BOINC Managers
to customize the "More info ..." hyperlink in the Diagnostic Log Flags dialog,
build the URL using the value from the skin's <organization_help_url> field.
HEAD detached at client_release/7.4/7.4.38
nothing to commit, working directory clean
