The BOINC message board system allows users to 'subscribe' to a thread - to receive automatic notification of new posts in threads of interest. It appears that the subscription notification is triggered only by a direct post into a thread, and is not triggered by a moderator moving an existing post into the thread. Could both 'post' and 'move' be made into equivalent event triggers, please?
I maintain two threads at SETI@Home http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=71867 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=74238 which by agreement with the moderators are kept 'locked and sticky' as pure information sources - discussion takes place in general threads. It is easier for both me and the moderation team if we perform updates asynchronously - I post in an 'open' thread, and moderators move the post into a 'locked' thread when convenient. But I have received a complaint that this procedure fails to trigger the subscription feature - although the thread does display the 'yellow pages' unread post notification. The alternative synchronous procedure - I request the moderators to unlock, they tell me when they've done it, I make the new post, the moderator locks the thread again - is clumsier for all of us, but does generate a notification to subscribed readers. _______________________________________________ boinc_dev mailing list [email protected] http://lists.ssl.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/boinc_dev To unsubscribe, visit the above URL and (near bottom of page) enter your email address.
