The BOINC client makes a limited # of simultaneous connections -
at most 1 scheduler RPC, at most 2 file transfers per project,
and at most 8 file transfers total.
So probably something else is going on.
It might be related to security software like personal firewall.

If the client is making to many connections that its overwhelming the router,

Can BOINC crash Windows network?

Hi all,

Over at Seti there's a person who claims that his BOINC will disable his
Windows 7 network. See
https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=74077

In the thread he says that whenever he runs BOINC, his network will crash, show
the yellow mark on the network icon. he has reformatted and reinstalled
Windows, added everything to his firewall exceptions.

I have asked him to test if it would do the same with something like
Folding@Home or Prime95. It does not. I have asked him if it may be a problem
with his videocard, so he ran Furmark a couple of times. Gives no problems.

But running quickly out of ideas. Other than hoping that Windows Event Viewer
has recorded something about it, does anyone here have an idea? Ever heard of
just BOINC disabling the Windows network?

He is running BOINC 7.2.33, although I don't think that matters much.
