I got the mach64-6.8.0 driver and added it to the driver list. Then thinking the ati-6.6.3 driver was still going to identify the mach64 video just as it had before and I needed an ati driver with the mach64 stuff removed, I got the ati-6.[89].0 drivers and tried each of them. Neither would compile. It appears there was never an ati-6.7.0, just a bunch of 6.7.19? candidates. Looking through their changelogs didn't seem to show anything encouraging. I tried changing the 'driver "ati"' to 'driver "mach64"' with 6.6.3 installed again to see if that would be joyous--no joy. So I walked it back to the "book install".
So, since there are other difficulties, I don't think I really need DRI anyway, and several of the coments about the mach64 drivers say it's not very good for dri anyway, my current plan is to try remove loading the dri/glx modules in xorg.conf, put away but keep all the alternative drivers, and try to get xorg-7.2 running right then proceed with other things to be installed. After that's working I may well return and try to sort this out again, possibly with the frame- buffers enabled as an "update". -- Paul Rogers [email protected] http://www.xprt.net/~pgrogers/ Rogers' Second Law: "Everything you do communicates."
