A quick look at vala-0.42.0 shows that graphviz is only recommended,
and an explanation for the sed is still present. But the sed is not
visible in the rendered book.
Experimentation shows that reinstating the sed, with each absolute
line number increased by 7, does the job. (And people wonder why I
hate seds with absolute line numbers when a patch should just apply).
But checking the XML I see that Douglas changed graphviz to
Recommended and commented out the sed. Since building the system
gets bigger and bigger with every change, I would prefer to not have
to build graphviz, and therefore to reinstate the sed as an option.
When I was last doing development work, the documentation produced by
doxygen was important, That app uses graphvix to incorporate grapical
versions of the code hierarchical structure.
I'm not sure how vala incorporates graphviz or what its purpose is, but
I agree that avoiding it and it's numerous dependencies is a good thing
in general.
