Do you install libspectre? > Yes, but it needs a patch for ghostscript-9.18. I decided that I already had all the dependencies for evince, except libspectre, so I made a short extra script and then watch the compile fail.
I eventually found a patch at gentoo, or rather I found the commit and worked from that - coundn't seem to find the patch itself, maybe because they have masked 9.18. I've committed it, and evince now displays the ps.
