My thoughts from reading the book suggests that you can ignore the
recommended dependencies, the package will build correctly but with less
features. This is also suggested in appendix C of LFS. 

This particular package you need to install this recommended dependency
in order for it to build. That was may my reasoning for it to be a
required dependency.
