Expanding on my earlier message about O2 and segfaults with gcc 4.8/4.9

Something similar was happening with Wine and memcpy/memreset and
perhaps some others like strncpy, as well.
I do see in the patch where the authors thought it may have been a
compiler bug, but decided it wasn't.
The lightning stalker, did it segfault when built with O1?
I'm glad a patch was found to resolve the issue.
