Ontbirds subscribers, The period of public visitation for the adult female Rufous Hummingbird in Oakville has come to an end today.
Homeowners Karalee and Ebrahim Patel have asked me to thank the Ontario birding community for adhering to the rules for visitation, for your enthusiasm, your joy at seeing the bird, and for being great ambassadors for the Ontario birding scene. To wrap up the event, we wanted everyone to know that 392 people came to view and/or photograph the Rufous Hummingbird during the public visitation period, and as far as we know, no one missed seeing the bird. Thank you all for your generosity - as the voluntary donation jar brought in a total of $1714.45 to be donated to Birds Canada for their work on behalf of bird conservation. It was a pleasure to see the excitement that was generated and now we will allow the Patels to go back to their normal routine.
