Birders

Today at the Sault Ste. Marie Landfill, Algoma, Ontario I had a adult
(definitive basic plumage) Slaty-backed Gull. Diagnostic pictures were obtained
and are posted on my blog-
Google- Larusology -for some reason my E-mail won't deliver messages with links
tonight

Unfortunately the dumping site is not open to the public and currently the area
is most treacherous for driving. I spoke to the Landfill manager today and he
did not feel the area was safe for public visitors.
The bird left the area shortly after noon so may be roosting along the St.
Mary's River along or at the foot of the rapids.

The bird is almost certainly spending some time at Dafter landfill in Michigan,
which is open to the public on weekdays-you need to sign-in and stay in your
vehicle. Birds travel freely during the day between the two landfills and any
particular bird can usually be found at either landfill if they stick around.
