Hello Birders
The 12th annual Huron Fringe Birding Festival has concluded the first
weekend and the birding has been excellent. The total number of species seen
at the festival over the first four days is 159, on par with other years.
A trip on Sunday morning at 6:00am with Mark Wiercinski in MacGregor park,
and along the Townline (the southern boundary of the park) produced a total
of 93 species. Another trip along the sideroads south of the park in Bruce
Township on Monday morning produce a total of 73 species.
Highlights so far are the Eared Grebe at the Kincardine Sewage lagoons, a
Northern Mockingbird at the cemetry in Kincardine, nesting Sandhill Cranes
(a first for MacGregor Park), a pair of Least Bittern on the Du Pond in
MacGregor Park, 23 Warblers, a Lawrence's Warbler on Bruce Rd 33 just south
of the park, approx 100m south of the Townline, and a host of other
songbirds.
There is still time to take part in the festival this coming weekend as we
strat up again on Thursday 28th and run to Sunday 31st May.

Directions
MacGregor Park is located west of Hwy #21 south of Port Elgin.
Kincardine Lagoons are west of Hwy #21 on Saratoga Rd. south of Kincardine.
The cemetry can be accessed from the Rail Trail that runs along side the
lagoons at the west end.
Bruce Road #33 runs south from the CAW Rd. with a small jog at the Bruce
Saugeen Townline to the west and then south again.
