I saw the flock in the field just east of the Curb Lane gas bar at 10:47 this morning. They were feeding and easily visible from the road. Highway 47 runs out of Uxbridge, both east and west. The gas bar is west of town, on the south side of the road, just west of the traffic lights at concession #6.

Just a short note for those that may be interested in some of the birds we are getting in our "northern" birdfeeders this year. As indicated in (Bird Studies Canada) Feederwatch website, grosbeak and common redpoll numbers appear low in southern Ontario, which is no great surprise I guess as these are generally northern birds, but there are certainly healthy numbers showing up at feeders here. Presently I have about 60 pine grosbeaks and a dozen evening grosbeaks, accompanied by a flock of about 40 common redpolls. I cracked my 5th 50lb pound bag of blackoil sunflower seeds yesterday, and am re-thinking my number of feeders! :-) (12). They are quite the symphony! :-) I have some pictures of them which I will gladly share with anyone that wishes to email me privately. Grosbeaks and redpolls not seeking out feeders can easily be seen snacking on the abundant tamarack, white birch, or alder seed which is in good supply naturally. And on the great gray owl front.......I am pleased to see everyone enjoying the healthy numbers throughout the south, and anxiously await the return wave of the majority of them in March. It sounds like they are finding the meadow voles that they "migrated" south for. I have not seen one here since mid-December, when another (the twelve) roadkill was brought into our office. The area provides good hunting and perches, and the bird is likely still there today. >From Pembroke, travel east along the Greenwood Road (old highway 17). Turn left at the Beachburg Road. Take the second left onto the Westmeath Road. Start looking for the bird about 0.5 to 1 km either way from the intersection of the Westmeath and Beachburg roads.
