Hi All!
Today coming home from Pelee late paid off. Betweeen
Port Alma and Port Crewe on the Talbot Trail were a
couple thousand Plover most of which I could see to
identify were Black Bellied Plover.
Around 4:30pm when I first stopped, east of Port Alma
near 911 marker 4774 on the north side of the road,
there were Plover as far as I could see in the field
(way way way into the distance). These distant ones
will remain unidentified Plover due to the distance;
the close ones were Black Bellied Plover.
Approximately 1 km further I stopped again to another
field of a couple hundred Black Bellied Plover
accompanied by 2 Ruddy Turnstones, numerous Dunlin,
and a handful of SB. Dowitchers. Flying in the
distance behind this group was a massive flock of
Plover, probably ~1000. This group flew to the west,
out of my sight.
The Talbot Trail runs along the north shore of Lake
Erie. Port Alma and Port Crewe are west of the lovely
town of Blenheim, east of the lovely town of Wheately.
Good Birding,
Ellen Smout
London, Ont.
