IMHO, it is about the competitive scaleout solutions they can put together: HW
-> interconnect, fault tolerance and QOS. SW -> communication
libraries(accelerated collectives) and application optimization with scalable
frameworks.
And to protect their current world wide portfolio of customers (HPE, SGI,
CRAY) for upcoming large scale deals.
Wrt AI, MLPERF training is a clear example of strong scaling AI with both data
and model parallelism, very much the same as in traditional domain
decomposition applications + streamed big data.
