I was thinking ISAM... Isn't that what everyone uses now? I mean OS/360 is 50 years old, so most of the bugs have been shaken out. I have been thinking about moving to that newfangled thing where you hash the key to determine which bucket the record will be in.

The way most NoSQL databases work, the library catalog would also do sequential writes. All updates, no matter where, are sequential writes.
