xCAT does that for you, the problem was with how xCAT builds the
osimage it will push out onto the Phi cards.  For some reason when it
initially generated the passwd file for the Phi cards that users was
getting lost.

Xiao Peng Wang, the xCAT dev who is looking after this code, said:

So hopefully it'll be OK in future releases of xCAT.

Now I just need them to implement a way to automatically roll out NFS
mounts into the Phi images. :-)
