Yes, whenever there is a Slashdot post about HPC (or anything else for that matter) slashperts* generally provide inane comments that often get pushed to the top. Much of it is very repetitive - new story, same wrong notions about HPC. In that past I have tried to supply some help, but I find it pretty much worthless at this point. In fairness there are sometimes insightful comments, but these are becoming harder to find. These days, I read http://alterslash.org/ to get a quick summary. * commenter on Slashdot who have no idea what they are talking about, do not read much (including the linked articles), and when challenged will often cut&paste Wikipedia or further verify Goodwin's law. -- Doug > > > From: Nathan Moore <ntmo...@gmail.com<mailto:ntmo...@gmail.com>> > Date: Monday, June 3, 2013 9:55 AM > To: Christopher Samuel > <sam...@unimelb.edu.au<mailto:sam...@unimelb.edu.au>>, > "beowulf@beowulf.org<mailto:beowulf@beowulf.org>" > <beowulf@beowulf.org<mailto:beowulf@beowulf.org>> > Subject: Re: [Beowulf] China to eclipse Titan with 48,000 Intel MICs? > > Congratulations on making the world's largest space-heater... > > > On Mon, Jun 3, 2013 at 1:16 AM, Christopher Samuel > <sam...@unimelb.edu.au<mailto:sam...@unimelb.edu.au>> wrote: > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > On 30/05/13 14:51, Christopher Samuel wrote: > >> Rumours are strengthening about a new 50+ PF system in China (Tianhe-2) >> which will have an Rpeak of 53-55PF and Rmax of 27-29PF. > > Full specs.. > > http://www.hpcwire.com/hpcwire/2013-06-02/full_details_uncovered_on_chinese_top_supercomputer.html > > quoting: > > http://www.netlib.org/utk/people/JackDongarra/PAPERS/tianhe-2-dongarra-report.pdf > > # achieved 30.65 petaflops out of a theoretical peak of > # 49.19 petaflops, or an efficiency of 62.3% of theoretical > # peak performance taking a little over 5 hours to complete. > > 17MW for just compute or 24MWs including column.. > > cheers, > Chris > - -- > Christopher Samuel Senior Systems Administrator > VLSCI - Victorian Life Sciences Computation Initiative > Email: sam...@unimelb.edu.au<mailto:sam...@unimelb.edu.au> Phone: +61 > (0)3 903 55545<tel:%2B61%20%280%293%20903%2055545> > http://www.vlsci.org.au/ http://twitter.com/vlsci > > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- > Version: GnuPG v1.4.11 (GNU/Linux) > Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://www.enigmail.net/ > > iEYEARECAAYFAlGsNMAACgkQO2KABBYQAh8wkQCeMlAhytRe2p/mMznkOyIMRwwF > uW8AmwU+g30mRthkfhE2tzB6wwzGnCOr > =S/Fv > -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- > _______________________________________________ > Beowulf mailing list, Beowulf@beowulf.org<mailto:Beowulf@beowulf.org> > sponsored by Penguin Computing > To change your subscription (digest mode or unsubscribe) visit > http://www.beowulf.org/mailman/listinfo/beowulf > > > > -- > - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - > Nathan Moore > Winona, MN > - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - > - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - > > -- > Mailscanner: Clean > > _______________________________________________ > Beowulf mailing list, Beowulf@beowulf.org sponsored by Penguin Computing > To change your subscription (digest mode or unsubscribe) visit > http://www.beowulf.org/mailman/listinfo/beowulf > -- Doug -- Mailscanner: Clean _______________________________________________ Beowulf mailing list, Beowulf@beowulf.org sponsored by Penguin Computing To change your subscription (digest mode or unsubscribe) visit http://www.beowulf.org/mailman/listinfo/beowulf
