gcc on Opteron is, relatively speaking, one of the best gcc ports. When
PathScale ported back to MIPS, they were able to beat gcc on that
processor by a much higher margin than on Opteron or Intel.

PathScale was always really good on VASP, by the way, I know we
clobbered Intel's compiler on Opteron, don't recall if we were
better than Intel's compiler on Intel's chips.
