That's a form of (1). (1) comes in a couple of flavors.

BTW, if you install an rpm on a live filesystem that is NFS mounted
elsewhere, you risk crashes. Why? Well, open files like executables
and shared libraries are imperfectly preserved across NFS, but
perfectly preserved locally.
