Our network folks were a bit sour on the Dells, so I stumbled around a bit and ended up getting an SMC 8748L2 (this is money I had to spend by today, essentially), which looks promising. If it falls over during testing, I'll try one of their stackable series of switches.

smc and dell (and asante and a few others) all resell the same managed switches made by accton...
